Women in their 40’s also get acne breakouts. For women who are already in this age bracket, getting acne can be quite an annoying and embarrassing problem. Although not all women in their 40’s get these nasty acne breakouts, this health issue is not an uncommon case.

Why Does This Happen?

Acne can result from several factors. Some of the top factors which contribute to acne include the cleansing routine of a person, diet and lifestyle, heredity, hormones, and even stress levels. For women in their 40’s, the usual cause of acne breakouts is hormonal imbalance.

A lot of women begin to experience menopausal symptoms when they reach the age of 40. When a woman undergoes this stage, her body goes through more hormonal changes and it can manifest on her skin in the form of pimples. Hormonal imbalance is believed to cause an excess in production of oil on the skin, and too much oil is what causes acne breakouts.

Apart from hitting the menopause stage, there are other factors which contribute to the acne breakouts which women in their 40’s experience. These include their usual menstruation cycle, pregnancy, or taking birth control pills and other medications which can affect their hormone levels. When these factors suddenly appear or are changed, it may lead to acne breakouts. Emotional stress, or simply stress in general can also cause breakouts. Because a lot of life events may be going on for women in their 40’s experiencing a lot of stress is also possible.

Acne Breakout Prevention

Women who are experiencing acne breakouts can prevent this by still maintaining a regular cleansing routine. Doing this twice a day can help clear the skin, and sticking to the routine can reduce the risks of having bad breakouts in the future.

Other methods to help prevent breakouts include using powder foundation rather than liquid foundation, removing makeup or reducing the overall use of makeup, and making use of clean brushes and makeup tools for the face.

Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing with products that work well with each other can also help reduce nasty acne breakouts. Exfoliating once or twice weekly can also help in removing extra product buildup and give the face a more glowing appearance.

Having a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and good old drinking water also helps flush out harmful toxins from the system which may cause the acne. Being able to regularly exercise can also help maintain balanced hormones while promoting sweating that can help in cleaning the system from within.

Generally, good hygiene and a healthy, stress-free lifestyle can give women—from any age radiant and healthy skin which is clear from acne. Don’t allow those zits to put you down because there are definitely things you can do to make sure you keep them away!
