Are you sick and tired of paying a mint for gels and lotions that promise to erase your acne scars but never really do anything? A lot of people share your pain and frustration but before you throw in the towel and just invest in heavy-duty concealer to cover the scars, you may want to try some natural remedies that make use of nature’s bounty. There are a lot of substances in nature that work on acne scars when gels made by man will not. One example is honey and many people agree that using it is an excellent way to get rid of scars. It doesn’t not remove the blemishes over-night but using it consistently will diminish the appearance of dark scars.
Some Recipes to Try
Honey, nutmeg, and cinnamon treatment– Honey is very soothing to skin and should be good for flare ups and it helps fade redness too. Nutmeg too works as an anti-inflammatory while cinnamon is an exfoliant that has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties too.
- Two tablespoons of honey (organic is best)
- Tablespoon of nutmeg
- Tea spoon of cinnamon.
Mix these three together in a little bowl and apply in small, circular motions to the face. Let it sit for about thirty minutes and rinse off with warm water. Once you are sure you have removed all traces of the mask on your face, pat your face dry with a clean towel and moisturize as you normally would.
Reminders: please do not scrub or rub the mask on the face as this is too harsh. Also, try not to exfoliate as you use this mask as it already has exfoliants mixed into it.
Oatmeal and honey face mask- ground oatmeal is one of the gentlest exfoliants you can find and when paired with the soothing properties of honey, you have mask that will dull acne scars and prevent breakouts.
- One tablespoon oatmeal (plain, rolled, or instant)
- 2 tablespoons honey (raw, organic)
- ¾ teaspoon distilled water ( may be substituted with rosewater toner or lemon juice)
Place oats in coffee grinder to turn to powder and when you are done, transfer to a small bowl. Add in the honey first and mix; you may add the water (lemon juice or rosewater toner) ¼ teaspoon at a time and mix until you have a thick and creamy paste. Apply all over the face except the eye area and let sit for 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and massage in circular motions to loosen. Tone and moisturize as you normally would.
Reminders: Suitable for all skin types and may be used daily.
Baking soda and honey mask- This mask is one you can mix up in a minute and will soothe red marks left by acne and slough off old acne scars.
- Teaspoon of baking soda
- Teaspoon of honey (raw, organic)
Mix in a saucer or any clean container until it forms a sort of creamy paste. Apply all over the face while avoiding the eye area. Rinse off after 30 minutes after which you can tone and moisturize.
Reminders- apply 3 to 4 times a week for best results
