Basically, the action of this antibiotic medicine is to stop the duplication of bacteria by preventing it and to nourish on protein which is the main key for bacterial maturity. Oral dose forms have capsules and suspensions. It also has parenteral route dose and topical application dose for acne treatment.

What Are the Adverse Effects?

Mild side effects may occur while taking this medicine like diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain or discomfort or cramps, nausea, vomiting, headache or dizziness. The usual dosage of tetracycline is 250 mg to 500 mg four times a day every six hours. If the dose is higher like 500 mg to 1 gram then it is taken every twelve hours. The dosage depends on the age of the patient and his or her condition. Children may need lower doses because this medicine is quite strong and it might give children stomach aches and severe diarrhea. If a person experiences overdose on this antibiotic, it is best to seek medical attention immediately. It might cause side effects to show up like severe diarrhea, rashes, vomiting, heart problems and renal impairment. In cases of acne, tetracycline should be applied on the affected area once a day after washing the area with mild soap and water.
