How to Make Your Own Lemon and Sugar Scrub to Prevent Acne and Lighten Acne ScarsDo you suffer from acne yet you find that no amount of washing your face and applying spot treatments gets rid of the nasty and painful spots on your face? If that is the case, do not fret because you can still try exfoliating scrubs that might just do the trick. So many people forget the power of a good facial scrub every now and then and while the market is full of facial scrubs, you can always try to make a quick and inexpensive one on your own.

Why exfoliate?

If you haven’t tried exfoliating before, now is the time to do it as it may just get rid of those painful red bumps once and for all. You see, by using an exfoliating scrub, you basically scrub away the bacteria that causes acne and you loosen the plugs which means they heal faster. Another benefit to using exfoliating scrubs is that it also loosens the dead skin and dirt that are trapped in the pores so you basically stop acne from developing in the first place. Below is a recipe for an easy to use and easy to make lemon and sugar scrub for acne that you really should try.

You will need:

  1. Half a fresh lemon
  2. Half cup granulated sugar
  3. A tablespoon of olive oil
  4. A tablespoon of organic honey
  5. Container

Instructions to make lemon and sugar scrub for acne

Squeeze your lemon juice into your container and add the olive oil and mix them well. Take out a whisk and use it to mix the honey in until you have something that has a medium-thick consistency. Add as much or as little honey and olive oil as you want depending on how thick you want your mixture. Pour in the sugar and mix again. If you want to add more sugar just do so. It is all about personal preference.

Once you have your lemon and sugar scrub at the consistency that you like, take tiny amounts of it and scrub gently all over your face. You might be tempted to really rub and scrub it in but bear in mind that doing so is likely to do more harm than good. You want to be gentle when scrubbing because the skin on your face is a lot more delicate than the skin anywhere else.

Tip: this same scrub can be used to exfoliate the body as well. Just make sure you double or even triple the amounts in the recipe so you do not have to worry about running out of scrub.

Why does this work?

Lemon juice works to lighten dark spots and that includes acne spots. It also works as a natural astringent that will tighten your pores and make your skin look brighter over all.  The sugar is a natural exfoliator and contains glycolic acid that evens out the skin tone and cleans out pores. Olive oil is rich in vitamin E so your skin becomes moisturized while the honey acts as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and a skin-soother. Before you use this though, consult with your doctor first.
