The slang for back acne is zits. In order to improve back acne condition, an understanding is necessary of the root cause apart from awareness about unrelated factors.

Possible Causes of Back Acne:

One possibility is tight clothes, which trap perspiration against the skin causing irritation.

Heavy bags and backpacks also cause irritation with the strap pressed against the back and shoulders. The irritation resulting from the rubbing motion of the weight on the skin can lead to back acne in some cases.

The view of some experts is that back acne may also be caused by the same culprits of facial and other acne forms. The possibility is that it may result from excessive production of the sebaceous glands during puberty and other phases of the human body undergoing hormonal changes.

Back Acne Tips:

  1. Stick to cotton clothes and keep your back dry with powder.
  2. Antiperspirant can be applied to the back but not in case of vigorous activity when sweating helps avoid overheating.
  3. Bacteria worsens acne. Therefore wear only clean clothes, bras and T-shirts during workouts with a clean towel for lying on exercise machines and gym mats.
  4. Shower immediately after perspiration. Avoid entering the steam room just after a sweaty workout without showering first to remove bacteria and dirt.
  5. Ideally two shirt changes are recommended with or without exercise to prevent bacteria buildup that worsens acne.

Severe back acne calls for professional expertise of a dermatologist or skin care specialist to protect the areas of skin from damage. Reducing the damage helps prevent scarring associated with severe back acne.
